Reality Design

In this seminar we want to create a pervasive game. This type of game is a genuine form of the so called enhanced term of game/gaming. It pervades and and obliterates the spacial, temporal and/or social contextual limit of traditional games.
Therefore in most examples of this type the actual game doesn´t take place at a certain location or to a certain date of time and therefore negate the typical character of a game.
But they open the borders between an playful and a serious state of mind. They drift between fiction and reality and are propelled by uncertainty and ambiguity. They challenge social norms and behavioural code, especially as related to what is being accepted in the public space.
We will focus on artistic questions towards the game and societal questions of the game. Thereby we will acquaint ourselves with the principles of gamedesign.

The seminar is open to students of all faculties.

GO PUBLIC AND PLAY

“Go Public and Play” focuses on projects taking place in different dimensions of the public space. Not only physical but also virtual perceptions of space are of interest, playful elements provoke a merge with the environment. Specific places for the realization of the projects can be localized. Let it be an interactive building facade, a tree as a level for a game, the pedestrian area as a musical instrument and many more yet unborn ideas…

The seminar is for preparation, idea generation and development of the projects.

Everybody is welcome.

KEEP PRIVATE // DATA IS LIFE AND LIFE IS DATA

In this workshop and the associated Lab for Analysis of Social Networks we critically and artistically look at the history and development of cyberculture and formation processes. The implicitness in dealing with social media services happens mostly on a very unreflected level. Goal of the seminar is to generate studies and projects connected to the topic of sensitizing users. Media artists, humanities scholars and computer scientists work together on theoretical and practical projects.

On three workshops in the whole we will go into the question of how our society is being changed by technical developments. The Lab for Analysis of Social Networks offers opportunities to bring the resulting insights into art.

In cooperation with the Institute for History at the KIT (IfG) we offer the seminar “Formation of Social Rooms” with focus on the historical development of todays infrastructures that meets every second week.

The workshop is open to anybody and focuses on transdiciplinary work between theoreticians and practitioners.
