Die „transmediale“ ist ein internationales Festival für zeitgenössische Kunst und digitale Kultur. Ansässig in Berlin, präsentiert sie künstlerische Positionen, die die Rolle neuer Technologien in der heutigen Gesellschaft reflektieren. Gezeigt werden künstlerische und theoretische Arbeiten, die nicht nur auf neue technische Entwicklungen reagieren, sondern Einfluss auf die Art und Weise ausüben, wie wir diese Technologien erfahren. Die „transmediale“ versteht Medientechnologien als Kulturtechniken, die man sich aneignen muss, um durch sie unsere heutige Gesellschaft verstehen, kritisieren und gestalten zu können. Schwerpunkte der „transmediale“ bilden die Ausstellung, der Wettbewerb, die Konferenz, das Film- und Videoprogramm und die Publikationsreihe „transmediale parcours”. Darüber hinaus kooperiert sie mit dem club transmediale CTM, der sich mit elektronischer Musik und Clubkultur befasst.

The “transmediale” is an international festival for contemporary art and digital culture. Resident in Berlin, it presents artistic positions which reflect the role of new technologies in the today’s society. There are shown artistic and theoretical works which not only react to new technical developments, but exert influence in the way as we experience these technologies. The “transmediale” understands media technologies as cultural technologies which everyone must appropriate to understand our today’s society through them and to be able to form and criticise it. The main points of the “transmediale” form the exhibition, the competition, the conference, the film- and videoprograms and the publication row „transmediale parcours”. In addition it co-operates with the club trans-mediale CTM which deals with electronic music and club culture.
